Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri 2018
The Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri is an exquisite Georgian wine from the famous Kakheti wine region, located in the east of Georgia. Kakheti is globally renowned for its rich winemaking tradition and unique terroir, which is perfect for grape cultivation. This wine is made from the indigenous Georgian grape Kakhuri Mtsvane, which literally means "Green Kakheti." It is one of the oldest and most widely planted grape varieties in Georgia. The grapes for this wine are carefully selected and hand-picked at the end of September when they have reached optimal ripeness. The winery follows the traditional Kakhetian method for producing this wine. After the grapes are pressed, they are placed together with the must and stems in a Qvevri, a large clay vessel buried underground. Here, the wine undergoes fermentation and remains in contact with the chacha (the skins and seeds of the grapes) until the first warmth of spring, usually in April of the following year. This extended maturation contributes to the wine's complex and distinctive flavor. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to 400-liter oak barrels, where it continues to mature, adding depth and balance to the wine. The alcohol content of Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri is around 13%, giving it both complexity and finesse. Experience the authentic Georgian winemaking tradition with this beauty and indulge in the rich flavors that the Kakheti region has to offer.
The Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri has a golden color that reflects its maturation in the qvevri. The wine is pleasantly balanced, with a well-developed aroma reminiscent of pear, daisies, nuts, and tea notes, beautifully complemented by subtle hints of vanilla. The taste is full and harmonious, with a rich texture and a high concentration of ripe phenols, indicating that the wine has excellent aging potential and will maintain its complexity over time. Its abundance of antioxidants not only enhances its flavor but also serves as a beneficial prophylactic against cardiovascular diseases.
The Koncho Mtsvivani Kakhuri Qvevri is the perfect wine to pair with Georgian cuisine, which is renowned worldwide for its rich and diverse flavors. This wine pairs particularly well with red meat dishes and fatty cheeses, which complement its fuller flavors. It is also an excellent choice for traditional Georgian dishes such as Khachapuri, Mtsvadi (grilled meat), and Satsivi (chicken in walnut sauce).
The optimal serving temperature for this wine is 18°C. This temperature ensures that the aromas and flavors of the wine are fully expressed, providing a rich and enjoyable wine experience.
Koncho and Company LLC was founded on September 18, 2001, by JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli and has deep historical roots in Georgian wine culture. The company is dedicated to producing and selling wines of the highest quality. The name "Koncho" originates from the Old Georgian word for "cross" and also forms the basis of the family name Konchoshvili. This family has a rich tradition in winemaking dating back to 1737, when Kakhaber Konchoshvili, the royal winemaker of King Teimuraz II of Kakheti, established a wine cellar. Here, traditional Kakhetian wines and chacha, a Georgian brandy, were produced. The family’s wine cellar remained operational until the end of the 20th century, initially in the village of Sabue and later in Kvareli. The establishment of Koncho and Company LLC marked a continuation of this centuries-old tradition, with the mission of preserving authentic Georgian wine culture and offering high-quality wines to enthusiasts worldwide. The company owns some of the best vineyards in the classic microzones of Kindzmarauli and Kvareli. These vineyards are located on fertile land where the Duruji River once flowed. The presence of black slate and a high concentration of carbonates at a depth of 8-10 meters below the surface give Koncho and Company’s wines a unique character and distinctive taste that set them apart within the Georgian wine world.
