The Shinobu Pure Malt Whisky Lightly Peated Mizunara Oak Finish is a unique Japanese whisky that offers the perfect balance between elegance, depth, and a subtle smokiness. This refined pure malt whisky comes from the coastal region of Niigata, on the west side of Japan, an area known for its rich natural elements: snow, rice, and sake — also called the "Three White Treasures." The cool, pure climate of this region contributes to the slow maturation and the delicate flavor of the whisky. The Shinobu whiskies are crafted by master blender Usami Ken, who is renowned for his precise selection of high-quality malt whiskies. For this Lightly Peated expression, he selects whiskies that have initially matured in sherry and bourbon hogshead casks. They then undergo a special finishing process in Japanese Mizunara oak — a rare and highly prized wood type used in Japanese barrel aging since the 1930s. Mizunara is known for its distinctive aromas of spices, fruit, and exotic wood, adding an unparalleled depth to this whisky. What makes this whisky extra special is that it is completely natural: no colorings are added, and it is not chill-filtered. This preserves all the natural oils and flavors, resulting in a complex and rich character. With an alcohol content of 43%, this whisky is ideal for lovers of refined Japanese whiskies with a lightly peated edge.

The whisky shines with a natural, golden-yellow color that appears elegant and refined. In terms of flavor profile, this whisky offers a surprisingly well-balanced experience. On the nose, fresh notes of mint and cream emerge, accompanied by a light peat smoke, lemon, and a hint of charcoal ash. On the palate, you taste a mild but distinct peaty flavor that harmonizes beautifully with roasted oak, dry grass, charcoal, and a subtle saltiness. The finish is long and pleasant, with warm notes of roasted malt and a sweet undertone derived from the oak. The Shinobu Lightly Peated also pairs excellently with various dishes. Think smoked salmon, grilled lamb chops, yakitori, or even a piece of dark chocolate. It is best served at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius, neat or with a few drops of water to further open up the flavor profile.
