Zulal warmly embraces the unique characteristics of native Armenian grapes, which thrive in the conditions of steep vineyards, an extraordinary climate, and volcanic soils. The origins of this wine culture date back to 2017, when Aimee Keushguerian, a second-generation winemaker, founded Zulal. The name Zulal, meaning 'pure' in Armenian, reflects Keushguerian's profound desire to celebrate the untamed flavors of lesser-known native Armenian grape varieties. The fruits of Zulal are carefully harvested from small production plots in picturesque villages such as Aghavnadzor and Rind, located in the lush Arpa Valley of Vayots Dzor. In addition to the well-known grape varieties Areni and Voskehat, Zulal also explores other fascinating Armenian varieties, including Koghbeni from Tavush, Nazeli and Movuz, Tozot and Karmir Kot from Vayots Dzor, Sireni from Artsakh, Jrjruk from Tavush, and Kakhet from Artashat. With an annual production of around 10,000 cases of wine, Zulal remains an embodiment of dedication to the rich diversity of Armenian wines and a proud representative of the craftsmanship involved in nurturing native grapes. It serves as a true ambassador for Armenians who celebrate their heritage and share their love for wine with the world. A celebration of authenticity and craftsmanship, woven into the rich history of Armenia.
