Meet Makashvili Wine Cellar Khikhvi, a beautiful wine from the enchanting Kakheti region, the beating heart of Georgian winemaking. In Kakheti, the grapes thrive in fertile soil and ideal climatic conditions, resulting in wines of extraordinary quality. The Makashvili Wine Cellar Khikhvi is made from the Khikhvi grape, an indigenous variety that flourishes in the Kakheti region. The Khikhvi grape is known for its distinctive flavor profile and contributes to a unique wine experience. This wine is made according to ancient Georgian winemaking traditions. After a careful manual harvest, the grapes are lovingly placed in large clay vessels, known as qvevri. These vessels have been part of the winemaking art for centuries. The grape juice ferments naturally with the skins, without the addition of artificial yeasts or sulfur. The wine continues to age in these traditional qvevri. With a perfectly balanced alcohol content of 12%, this wine contributes to a harmonious tasting experience, making it an excellent choice for various occasions. Taste the rich history and tradition of Georgian wine with every sip of the Khikhvi.

This delightful wine captivates with its brilliant golden hue and an abundance of enticing aromas. The nose is pampered with notes of ripe stone fruits, blossoms, honey, and a hint of nutmeg, reminiscent of a freshly baked peach tart with caramel glaze. This enchanting bouquet is beautifully reflected in the taste of the wine, which is rich and full, with a refreshing crispness. The wine has a medium body, refreshing acidity, and a pleasant fruity aftertaste. This wine is extraordinarily versatile and makes an excellent accompaniment to various dishes. Think grilled chicken, seafood, soft cheeses, or even Asian culinary creations. The Khikhvi is the ultimate companion for culinary adventures and will elevate your meals to a higher level. To reveal the full beauty of the Makashvili Wine Cellar Khikhvi, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 14°C and 16°C. This serving temperature optimizes the flavors and aromas, making every sip an unreserved pleasure.

Georgia, considered the birthplace of winemaking, is where the foundations were laid for the production of qvevri wines according to ancient Georgian traditions. At the Makashvili Winery, they proudly reflect the rich history of qvevri winemaking, with deep roots in the family of Prince Makashvili. The finest qvevri wines were originally made from grapes grown on the estate of this noble family. It was an honor to serve these exquisite Georgian wines to distinguished guests visiting the Kakheti region. Today, as a venture founded by descendants of this family, they are praised for upholding the highest standards in qvevri wine production, admired by both experts and connoisseurs of fine wine. This dedication has led to numerous prestigious international accolades. The ancient tradition of qvevri winemaking, dating back as far as 8,000 years, is respected and upheld with great reverence. Vaziani Winery is a proud guardian of this rich cultural and historical heritage. The Makashvili Wine Cellar, which belongs to Vaziani, has its roots in the historic Makashvili estate dating back to the second half of the 15th century. In the winery’s cellar, there are qvevri vessels that are over 120 years old, discovered during the restoration in 2012. Out of approximately 200 discovered qvevri vessels, only 39 could be saved from damage. The wines are lovingly and dedicatedly crafted using the traditional qvevri method in these ancient vessels, and they are produced in limited quantities. These wines have gained worldwide recognition and appreciation.
