Koncho Rkatsiteli Qvevri 2020
Koncho & Co Rkatsiteli Qvevri is a powerful orange wine from the Georgian region of Kakheti. The wine is made from 100% Rkatsiteli grapes, an indigenous variety known for its high acidity and complex aromas. Kakheti, the birthplace of Georgian winemaking, is famous for its mineral-rich soils with a high clay content. The grapes for this wine are hand-harvested, with an initial selection at the end of July/early August and the final harvest in October/November. After harvesting, the wine undergoes a traditional Qvevri vinification process: fermentation and maceration for five months in a Qvevri (amphora), followed by one year of aging in oak. This process results in deep flavor development and an oxidative character. This Georgian orange wine has an alcohol content of 13% and is best enjoyed when lightly chilled. Due to its robust tannin structure and oxidative style, the wine is perfect for aging, further enhancing its complexity. Discover the Koncho & Co Rkatsiteli Qvevri and be amazed by the unparalleled depth and unique character of this Georgian gem!
This Georgian orange wine has a beautiful golden-yellow color with an orange-amber glow. The aroma is rich and expressive, with nuances of apple, pear, apricot, candied lemon, quince, dried flowers, roasted hazelnut, bergamot, cocoa, and dried tutti frutti. On the palate, the wine is powerful and well-balanced, with a complex and long finish.
The Koncho & Co Rkatsiteli Qvevri is a versatile wine that pairs excellently with a variety of dishes. Its fresh and aromatic flavors complement grilled fish, chicken dishes, and white meat perfectly. Traditional Georgian dishes, such as Khachapuri (Georgian cheese bread) or Mtsvadi (grilled meat), also make an excellent match for this wine. Additionally, the rich taste of qvevri wine pairs well with cheese and light salads with a citrus dressing.
To fully enjoy the Koncho & Co Rkatsiteli Qvevri, it is recommended to serve the wine at a temperature of 10-12°C. This allows the fresh and fruity aromas to shine while subtly highlighting the complexity of its qvevri aging.
Koncho and Company LLC was founded on September 18, 2001, by JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli and has deep historical roots in Georgian wine culture. The company is dedicated to producing and selling wines of the highest quality. The name "Koncho" originates from the Old Georgian word for "cross" and also forms the basis of the family name Konchoshvili. This family has a rich tradition in winemaking dating back to 1737, when Kakhaber Konchoshvili, the royal winemaker of King Teimuraz II of Kakheti, established a wine cellar. Here, traditional Kakhetian wines and chacha, a Georgian brandy, were produced. The family’s wine cellar remained operational until the end of the 20th century, initially in the village of Sabue and later in Kvareli. The establishment of Koncho and Company LLC marked a continuation of this centuries-old tradition, with the mission of preserving authentic Georgian wine culture and offering high-quality wines to enthusiasts worldwide. The company owns some of the best vineyards in the classic microzones of Kindzmarauli and Kvareli. These vineyards are located on fertile land where the Duruji River once flowed. The presence of black slate and a high concentration of carbonates at a depth of 8-10 meters below the surface give Koncho and Company’s wines a unique character and distinctive taste that set them apart within the Georgian wine world.
