Kef by Karas White Dry Wine
KEF by KARAS White Dry Wine reflects its name – “celebration” in Armenian – and evokes the warm, inviting atmosphere of an authentic Armenian gathering. This fresh white wine is composed of 60% Kangun and 40% Chenin Blanc, grapes that thrive in the fertile, volcanic soils of the Ararat Valley in the Armavir region. Each bottle captures the soul of the landscape where the vines take root. The production process begins with the careful hand-picking of the grapes, followed by meticulous sorting to retain only the best fruit. After pressing, the juice rests for 24 hours at a low temperature to achieve clarity. This is followed by a slow fermentation lasting about 20 days at 14 to 16°C, giving the wine its refined structure and aromatic balance. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, Karas Kef White blends centuries-old winemaking tradition with modern vinification techniques, resulting in an expressive and elegant wine experience.
This characterful white wine stands out with its radiant light-yellow color and vibrant green hues. The bouquet opens with expressive aromas of citrus fruits – especially grapefruit – refined with floral notes and a hint of salty minerality. On the palate, it reveals an energetic, fresh structure that is well-balanced and pairs beautifully with a wide variety of dishes. For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve Karas Kef White slightly chilled, around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. Those wishing to store the wine should do so in a space between +5 and +20°C, with a maximum humidity of 85%. Whether it’s an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, this wine brings a touch of Armenian tradition and craftsmanship to the table – a true tribute to flavor and hospitality.
In the heart of Armenia, beneath the impressive shadow of Mount Ararat, Karas Wines is sparking a true revolution in winemaking. The name "Karas," which means "amphora" in Armenian, refers to the traditional clay vessels that have been used in wine production for over 6000 years. This strong connection to Armenia’s ancient winemaking tradition inspires Karas Wines to redefine the future of wine from one of the world’s oldest wine regions, with the goal of creating some of the most sought-after wines at a global level.
Despite Armenia’s rich winemaking history, the country had not fully integrated modern techniques into production until Karas Wines entered the scene. The major change began when the company hired an experienced winemaker from Argentina's Mendoza region, with the mission of innovating production methods. Additionally, Karas brought in the expertise of the globally respected wine consultant Michel Roland to guide their innovative approach. This powerful combination of knowledge and creativity marked the beginning of a new chapter in Armenia’s wine world.
Since its founding in 2003, Karas Wines has carefully selected its vineyards in ideal locations near Yerevan, at the foot of the majestic Mount Ararat. The vineyards benefit from fertile black volcanic soils and varying elevations ranging from 400 to 1100 meters, providing optimal conditions for growing grapes of exceptional quality. With a strong focus on quality and tradition, Karas Wines produces wines that honor the rich history of Armenian winemaking, while also appealing to modern wine enthusiasts. The combination of abundant sunshine and volcanic soils gives their grapes a unique character, expressing the exceptional Armenian terroir in every bottle.
