Koncho Kvareli 2020
Discover Koncho Kvareli, a superb dry red wine from the renowned Kvareli region in Georgia. This area, located in the heart of Kakheti, is known for its centuries-old winemaking traditions and exceptional terroir, surrounded by the lush hills of the Caucasus and the fertile Alazani Valley. Koncho Kvareli is made entirely from Saperavi grapes, one of the most prized grape varieties in Georgia. The grapes are hand-harvested at the end of September, precisely when they have reached their optimal ripeness. Only the best bunches are selected for vinification. The winemaking begins with a traditional three-week fermentation, where the grapes ferment together with their pomace. This process enriches the wine with deep aromas and a layered structure. The wine then stays on its lees for some time, further enhancing its complexity. Malolactic fermentation contributes to a refined balance and softness in the taste. Afterward, Koncho Kvareli undergoes twelve months of aging in oak barrels. This phase is crucial for the development of its characteristic depth and elegance. With an alcohol content of 13.5%, this wine offers a powerful yet perfectly balanced tasting experience that captivates wine lovers worldwide.
Koncho Kvareli is a full-bodied, characterful wine with a deep ruby red color. The bouquet is rich and layered, with pronounced aromas of blueberries, dried black plums, and blackberries. These fruity scents are elegantly complemented by subtle nuances of vanilla and cloves, which develop during aging in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine offers a velvety texture thanks to the ripe phenols, providing a pleasant and balanced tasting experience. With its high aging potential, the wine continues to develop in the bottle, becoming more refined over the years. The finish is long and intense. Koncho Kvareli is a versatile companion at the table and pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes. It is a perfect match with grilled red meats, such as lamb or beef, where the powerful flavors of the dish meld beautifully with the rich notes of the wine. It also pairs harmoniously with aged cheeses, such as Gruyère or aged cheeses, where the full, salty flavors of the cheese are nicely supported. Additionally, Koncho Kvareli is an excellent choice with spicy dishes, such as grilled kebabs or aromatic stews, where it complements the spices and deep flavors perfectly. For the optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve the wine at a temperature between 15-17°C. At this temperature, the aromas and complexity fully unfold, making every sip a true delight.
Koncho and Company LLC is a leading winery with deep roots in the ancient Georgian wine tradition. Founded on September 18, 2001, by JSC Corporation Kindzmarauli, the company builds upon a rich history in viticulture. The name "Koncho" originates from an old Georgian word for "cross" and honors the Konchoshvili family, who have played a prominent role in winemaking since 1737. According to tradition, the winemaking heritage dates back to Kakhaber Konchoshvili, the royal winemaker of King Teimuraz II of Kakheti. He established a winery that specialized in traditional Kakhetian wines and chacha, the famous Georgian brandy. This winery, originally located in the village of Sabue and later in Kvareli, remained active until the end of the 20th century. With the establishment of Koncho and Company LLC, this legacy continues. The winery combines authentic Georgian winemaking techniques with a deep respect for terroir and craftsmanship. The vineyards are located in the prestigious micro-regions of Kindzmarauli and Kvareli, carefully selected for their exceptional soils. These lands, shaped by the Duruji River, consist of black slate with a high concentration of carbonates at a depth of 8 to 10 meters. This unique soil structure contributes to the distinctive taste and character of the wines from Koncho and Company. Thanks to this unique combination of tradition, craftsmanship, and exceptional terroirs, the wines of Koncho and Company have gained worldwide recognition among connoisseurs of Georgian quality wines.
